Rana Tharu: The uprooted princesses
In the far west of Nepal, bordering a wood called Lalzarie, lives the Rana Tharu people. Nicknamed the Princesses of the Forest, they are one of the lowest castes in Nepal.
This documentary follows Laltilla, 72, “bourilla” or dean of the Rana family. She tells us about her daily life and her beliefs through the activities of the village, tasks of backbreaking labor that make life among the Rana Tharu an ordinary and nameless difficulty. Laltilla paints the portrait of a society that is gradually dying out. Should she lock herself in her own culture?
